CAPITAL PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Cornwall Central School District is planning a capital project to address a wide range of critical infrastructure needs. The project will be voted on by the community in May, 2022, but the planning process begins now.
Investing in the future without raising taxes
Capital Reserve Fund
The district administration and board of education have set a clear goal: to create a capital project with little to no impact to taxpayers.
In recent years, the district has saved enough money via its capital reserve fund that it can now afford a capital project of roughly $23 million dollars without increasing taxes. The capital reserve fund was approved by the taxpayers, as was every transfer into that fund over the last three years. The district and community now get to benefit from that fiscal foresight.
Final Recommendations
The Facilities Committee has made its final recommendation to the Board of Education. This includes $23 million of enhancements to a broad range of areas.
The Board discussed the committee's recommendation at length during their regular work meeting on Monday, January 10th, 2022. You can view that meeting in it's entirety by clicking here.
The Board will discuss the project further at their next meeting, Monday January 24th, 2022. Depending on progress, this meeting may include a vote on the project's scope. Stay tuned for updates.
